Blue-State Governors Launch Defiance Pact Against Trump

California Gov. Gavin Newsom is teaming up with Oregon and Washington to defy the Trump administration’s CDC with a new “West Coast Health Alliance.”

The pact openly rejects HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s overhaul of federal vaccine guidance, pledging instead to follow activist medical groups and issue their own rules. Newsom and his allies claim they are “protecting science,” but many see a rerun of the failed playbook that shuttered classrooms, closed beaches, and crushed small businesses while exempting the elites.

By creating a regional bloc, the governors are preparing dueling mandates that could confuse millions, reignite cultural battles, and further erode trust in public health. Their message is unmistakable: they don’t trust Trump or Kennedy to lead on science — even though their own mandates helped wreck that trust in the first place.
