We have a new update on Kilmar Abrego Garcia, John:
After ICE arrested this Maryland father at his immigration check-in just days after a judge ordered his release, the Trump administration was threatening to deport him to Uganda, a country he’s not from and has never visited.
Now, a leaked ICE email says they instead plan to deport him to Eswatini, yet another African country that Kilmar has no connections to that has agreed to accept deportees from the United States.
This comes after Kilmar’s attorneys warned that he fears being persecuted or even tortured if deported to Uganda, after he experienced violent abuse in an El Salvador megaprison months ago.
A federal judge has already prohibited Trump’s administration from deporting Kilmar to Uganda for at least the next month, but ICE and DHS are insistent on making an example out of this man seeking asylum to stay in the U.S. with his wife and children.
We can’t let the Trump administration continue to ignore judges and successfully deport Kilmar to a foreign country where he faces possible persecution and torture.
