A Recent Makeover Project with the Fort Worth Police Department Last week, our in-house partners with the Fort Worth Police Department's Crimes Against Children Unit helped create a new space of healing for one of our child clients. The Makeover Project aims to transform spaces where trauma ocurred, removing triggers by renovating the room in various ways. Alongside the child, we reimagine the room, shifting the space from one of hardship to reflect the joys and simplicities of childhood. This client had unfortunately experienced sexual abuse within the confines of her room and was having difficulty coping. To give her the proper space to heal, our team of partners jumped into action! Within two days, our partners had completely redone the client's room by painting the walls, building furniture, and adding special touches reflecting the client's personality. We're so thankful for our partners' generosity and hearts for our Makeover Project, making our client's pink room a reality! A HUGE thank you to our partners with the Fort Police Department's Crimes Against Children Unit for making our client's pink room come to life! Help Fill our Clinical Graduation Baskets Our counseling graduations symbolize not just achievement, but healing and hope for every child who leaves their hand or thumbprint on our healing trees. Each print, no matter the size, marks the resilience and progress these brave children have made throughout their clinical journey. On graduation day, in the presence of their supportive caregivers or any special guest they choose to include, every child is gifted a basket filled with thoughtful items designed to encourage ongoing self-care and healthy coping skills. Inside they’ll find a water bottle, a reminder to nourish their bodies; a journal for self-expression; and a coloring book with crayons or colored pencils to promote healthy coping. To provide comfort, they’ll receive a stuffed animal and blanket. As our clinicians deeply know their child client, each basket is completed with items tailored to the child’s unique interests, which can include arts and crafts activities that spark creativity and joy, or fidget toys to encourage healthy coping skills. The Next Steps Project Children and protective families impacted by child abuse endure many hardships such as a mental and emotional toll, major changes in family dynamics and finances, and anxiety about the future. To ease these children and their families through seasons of transition, the Next Steps Project aims to help them recover from their devastating trauma through strengthened family connections, feelings of safety and well-being, and the celebration of major milestones. Unique to the child's needs, interests and skill sets, the Next Steps Project provides a special opportunity through an immersive experience such as a new sport or dance program, celebrating a life event, or creating a bonding experience with their protective caregivers. Recently, our Family Advocates provided a client with a beautiful quinceañera to celebrate her 15th birthday with her friends and family. Another client was given the opportunity to partake in jiu jitsu classes. When household dynamics changed due to allegations, one of our families went bowling to create new, happy memories together. Our Family Advocacy Program examines a client's needs and interests to determine what activity or "next step" can be taken to provide the child and their protective family with an experience they'll never forget, all in hopes of taking the edge off the trauma they've endured.
