Hi Friend -
Some battles find you.
Last week we learned that Michigan is moving forward on a new set of administrative rules that would reshape how citizens can challenge bad data on the voter rolls and how those rolls can be cancelled or corrected. If adopted as drafted, these rules risk making an already difficult process even harder — stacking the deck against citizen oversight and codifying what too often already happens in practice: keep the public in the dark and call it “clarity.”
The state may want this. The people do not.
We didn’t hear about the proposed rule changes early enough to weigh in at the outset, mercy knows we have plenty on our plate, but there are some fights you engage in because silence looks like consent. We are not complicit. We are not silent. We are preparing to collaborate with allied citizens and groups this week to challenge these moves in court, because that’s where unconstitutional overreach is stopped. We’ll keep you posted. This is a fight worth having.
While we press forward in Michigan, I want to encourage you to take one simple, meaningful step today: add your comments in support of America First Legal’s petition urging the U.S. Election Assistance Commission to require documentary proof of citizenship to register for federal elections. AFL is in the arena on real cases, and this is a concrete, national lever for reform. Let’s help them push.
Many of you also joined us in prayer last week as decisions in Washington that affect our work moved forward. We still haven’t received any feedback. That’s fine. We may not. If DC does the right thing, praise God. If politics prevails, we keep going. Either way, your prayers matter. The greatest prayer is strength to walk faithfully in God’s plan, whatever comes.
So here’s how you can help right now:
1) Pray. For wisdom, protection, and perseverance for all who are standing watch.
2) Act. Add your comments to AFL’s petition in support of proof of citizenship to register to vote
3) Stand with us. Share this message. Encourage one more person to get signed up and get involved. Soon we will be introducing a new community platform that will allow us all to connect and engage like never before!
4) If you’re able, please support the work that keeps the lights on and the lawsuits moving.
And above all … keep the faith. Never quit. Ephesians 6 FTW!
Ever onward -
Catherine
