US job growth slows in August, unemployment hits 4.3%
US job growth slowed significantly in August, with nonfarm payrolls rising by just 22,000 and the unemployment rate increasing to 4.3%, the highest in nearly four years. Revised June data showed a decline of 13,000 jobs, the first decline since late 2020, according to the Labor Department. Economists attribute the slowdown to trade policies and immigration crackdowns.

Walmart opens high-tech perishable distribution center
Walmart has opened a 725,000-square-foot perishable distribution center in Wellford, S.C., that can handle more than twice the volume of traditional distribution centers by using advanced automation. The facility distributes eggs, dairy, fresh produce, meat and frozen products to 180 stores and employs 600 people.

Tariffs dent profits, force price hikes in US, Europe
More than three in four US and European companies have seen profit decline because of tariffs, and 84% of businesses plan to raise prices to counter the impact, but most say it could be weeks or months before prices change, according to a survey by Censuswide and software developer Enable. Nearly half are planning to reduce operations or exit high-tariff markets amid ongoing uncertainty, and Enable CEO Andrew Butt says "pricing agility has become an essential survival skill."
