JAWS hit theaters 50 years ago. As you might recall, a giant shark terrorizes a beach town. But the real villain isn’t the shark. It’s the mayor, who ignores warnings, downplays danger, and puts lives at risk just to protect business as usual.
And here’s the kicker: in JAWS 2, he’s still the mayor. Nothing changes. Why? Because the people in power stayed the same. That’s not just a horror movie plot. That’s American politics.
Run for Something is here to change that. We recruit, train, and support young, diverse progressives who want to upend politics as usual and breathe new life into our political system.

We’ve already seen this sequel because politics is stuck on repeat.
The same older generation calls the shots, even though their version of America doesn’t reflect how most of us live. The people making the rules don’t look like the people living under them — young people, women, LGBTQIA+ folks, and people of color are sidelined. And it shows in the policies we get.
Meanwhile, local and state lawmakers are shaping almost everything that matters: schools, health care, rents, voting rights, and our basic freedoms. But those races rarely get the spotlight.
