Conspiracy theorist, 9/11 denier, and white supremacist sympathizer Laura Loomer has launched an online smear campaign against Senator Warner for doing his job overseeing national intelligence. She even went so far as to call on the Trump administration to cancel Warner’s routine oversight meeting with members of the national intelligence community (and they did!).
Let that sink in: a fringe internet troll is influencing national security decisions. And Mark’s Republican colleagues? Silent. Not one has spoken up to condemn this. Not one has stood with Mark and called out the Trump administration for taking its marching orders from a fringe conspiracy theorist.
This silence speaks volumes. No matter how reckless, dangerous, or irresponsible Trump’s administration gets, too many Republicans would rather fall in line than do what’s right.
Senator Warner won’t back down and let internet trolls like Laura Loomer stop him from serving Virginians. But the more he takes a stand against the Trump administration, the more Republicans could target him to defeat him next year.
