If the parties had their way, they would gerrymander, close the primaries, and define independent voters out of existence. When all you care about is winning, independent voters are a problem. We don’t conform to their script.  

That’s why Open Primaries is not a party. We are a movement. For people power. And in the face of strong opposition from both major parties, our movement is growing.   

ACTION:  We filed a lawsuit in Maryland <[link removed]> challenging the State’s closed primary elections as unconstitutional. At the heart of the case are the five plaintiffs – independent voters from across the state who volunteered to step forward to challenge the state in court. And Maryland is just one of four states that have active litigation challenging the closed primary structure.  PA <[link removed]>, OR <[link removed]>, and WY <[link removed]> are the other states where independents are insisting on equal voting rights. 

ACTION:  Let Us Vote <[link removed]> (LUV) has recruited thousands of independent voters from across the country this year, and LUV activists have been rolling up their sleeves, passing open primaries in New Mexico, testifying in New York, joining our lawsuit in Maryland, conducting a polling operation in Florida…and so much more. ACTION: In May, the New Mexico Legislature passed a bill to give independent voters the right to vote in primary elections, the Nevada Legislature did the same in June (although the governor vetoed the bill), lawmakers in Pennsylvania are debating the issue as is the Florida Democratic Party who is considering opening the primaries to independents.
