As if it wasn’t bad enough that Donald Trump and Pete Hegseth decided to waste resources and rename the Department of Defense the Department of War, Trump threatened to use this department against the city of Chicago in an ominous social media post over the weekend:
A U.S. president is suggesting waging war on one of its own cities, after he’s already deployed the National Guard to other cities against the wishes of their Democratic mayors and governors.
That’s not normal – that’s the behavior of a fascist dictator.
When questioned about this post by a reporter, Trump claimed, “We're not going to war, we're going to clean up our cities. We're going to clean them up so they don't kill five people every weekend. That's not war. That's common sense."
We cannot let Trump continue to militarize domestic cities under the guise of cleaning up crime. This is getting out of control, and we need Congress and the courts to step in.
