Recently, a federal judge heard arguments in a case with major implications for religious freedom. Truth Family Bible Church in Idaho was told it could no longer rent a public charter school gym for Sunday services because the school was applying for public bonds, and officials feared the lease might violate Idaho’s Blaine Amendment, a 130-year-old law banning “aid” to religious institutions, including space rentals. Represented by Pacific Justice Institute, the church filed a federal lawsuit challenging the restriction and is now asking the court to strike down the Blaine Amendment entirely. A ruling is expected as early as September. 
 

If successful, the case could restore Truth Family’s right to gather and protect churches nationwide from being treated unfairly for their beliefs. At PJI, we believe no church should be punished for being a church.
