Dear John,
This summer, Donald Trump escalated his authoritarian playbook, deploying U.S. troops into our cities, turning the military into a political weapon, and using federal power to intimidate opponents while fueling his mass deportation campaign.
Now, Congress faces a critical test. The National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) is up for a vote, a bill that would hand the Pentagon billions more in funding. Passing it without addressing Trump’s military abuses would send a dangerous signal that lawmakers are willing to look the other way while Trump uses our armed forces against the American people.
A vote for the NDAA, under these circumstances, risks legitimizing Trump’s domestic military occupation strategy. It risks normalizing authoritarianism in America. That’s why we need members of Congress to reject the NDAA outright, and the only way they’ll do it is if they hear from constituents like you, loud and clear.
History will remember whether Congress stood up to Trump’s dangerous power grabs or enabled them. We must ensure our elected officials choose the side of democracy, not dictatorship.
We must show that people will not tolerate Congress handing Trump more power to turn our cities into militarized zones. Tell Congress right now to reject the NDAA and stop Trump’s domestic military deployments.
Authorizing more billions for the Pentagon while Trump deploys troops against U.S. citizens is unacceptable.
We cannot allow American cities to become militarized zones under the thumb of a wannabe strongman. We cannot allow our government to normalize authoritarian control of communities. And we cannot allow the Pentagon to become Trump’s personal political weapon.
This is how authoritarian regimes consolidate power: they take the military, designed to defend the nation, and turn it inward on the people. The NDAA threatens to do exactly that. And every member of Congress must decide whether they will stand with democracy or surrender to dictatorship.
Grassroots voices have stopped reckless policies before, and we can do it again. The louder and stronger our movement, the harder it becomes for Congress to ignore.
Demand that your senators and representative vote NO on the NDAA and block Trump’s dangerous domestic military deployments.
Together, we can make sure Congress sides with democracy, not authoritarianism.
