Broad Business Community Opposes Last-Minute Cap-and-Trade Renewal

The broad-based business community released the following statement in response to last-minute developments regarding a renewal of the state’s cap-and-trade program:

“In a year when ‘affordability’ was supposed to be the number one issue for Sacramento politicians, last-minute and secretive cap-and-trade conversations are completely missing the mark. Instead of lowering costs, the proposals we have heard being discussed will make California even more expensive — raising the price of energy, fuel, and goods at a time when families and small businesses are already paying the highest costs nation.

“With just days left in session, no regulated industry has seen actual bill language. Rushing a deal that will determine the next 20 years of climate policy, without public hearings or transparency, is the wrong approach. A bad deal now is far worse than no deal at all.”
