Costco is caving to extremists by refusing to sell the abortion pill—sign the petition to fight back!
Dear MoveOn member,
Costco just made a troubling decision to not sell mifepristone, a safe and FDA-approved abortion pill. Instead of siding with patients and members, Costco is caving to pressure from far-right extremists.1
Sign the petition to demand that Costco prioritize health and science over anti-abortion disinformation campaigns.
Mifepristone is overwhelmingly safe—even safer than penicillin and Viagra (both of which Costco pharmacies stock)—and it's been FDA-approved for over two decades.2 Millions of patients have used it safely, making it the most common method of abortion care in the U.S.3 But despite this, Costco is refusing to get certified to dispense the pill at its pharmacies, buckling under pressure from anti-abortion groups and investors.
Other major pharmacies, including CVS and Walgreens, have already received certification to dispense mifepristone. There's no reason Costco can't follow suit. Their decision is not about safety or consumer demand—it's about politics. And the people paying the price are customers and patients who deserve access to basic health care.
This isn't just about Costco—it's part of a coordinated strategy to ban medication abortion nationwide, even in states where it’s legal.
People's access to essential health care is on the line. Will you sign the petition to tell Costco's leadership to stop caving to extremist pressure and provide access to mifepristone?
Costco caved to a high-pressure campaign from conservative and religious investor groups.4 And this decision isn't just wrong—it's dangerous. Allowing far-right extremists to dictate what medications are available undermines both reproductive freedom and public health.
Senator Patty Murray has called on the company to "immediately reverse course—follow the science and the facts, not the demands of far-right anti-abortion extremists."5
Add your name to call on Costco's CEO to follow the science and make mifepristone available to its customers, just like Walgreens and CVS have done.
Medication abortion is overwhelmingly safe, effective, and widely used. Extremists know they can't ban it outright everywhere, so they're trying to cut off access by targeting corporations one by one. If Costco can be bullied into withholding access to FDA-approved medication, what other essential medicines could become harder to access?
The majority of Americans support access to abortion and reproductive health care.6 Costco must follow the lead of companies like Walgreens and CVS—and make it clear that anti-abortion extremists can't come between patients and their care.
We won't accept corporations making health care decisions based on far-right pressure campaigns. Tell Costco to dispense mifepristone now.
Thanks for all you do.
