Each month we hold Planning Commission meetings and present to the Board of Island County Commissioners (Board) on topics relevant to Island County’s 2025 Comprehensive Plan Update [ [link removed] ]. Below are our upcoming meetings and engagement opportunities. 

*Planning Commission*

The next Planning Commission meeting will be on Wednesday, September 17 at 6 pm. Long Range Planning will be presenting draft code changes for the Mixed-Use Limited Areas of More Intensive Rural Development (LAMIRDs, also known as RAIDs). These areas are currently under a development moratorium [ [link removed] ] while the code is updated. Materials are available in the agenda center [ [link removed] ].

*Board of County Commissioners*

Long Range Planning will be meeting with the Board on September 10th to review draft code changes relating to Accessory Dwelling Units, Co-living Housing, Temporary RV Housing, and RV Safe Parking Lots Pilot Program. Meeting materials are available in the agenda [ [link removed] ] center [ [link removed] ].

The Board will be taking action on the revised Countywide Planning Policies at their Regular Session on September 16th at 10 AM. The Board’s decision will consider the Planning Commission’s recommendation to reassess the population projection and Oak Harbor’s housing allocation for the 20-year planning period. While this is not a public hearing, the public is invited to comment at the beginning of the meeting. On September 17th, Long Range Planning will be discussing possible updates to the forestry policies within the Public Benefit Rating System (PBRS) program. Planning will brief the Board on the workshop with the Planning Commission and concerns raised from the public regarding the County’s forestry practice policies.
