*Governor Kelly Seeks Applicants for
Director of Kansas Office of Early Childhood*

*
TOPEKA* – Governor Laura Kelly announced Monday that she is seeking applications for the director of the Kansas Office of Early Childhood position. The Director of Early Childhood will be appointed by Governor Kelly and is subject to confirmation by the Kansas Senate.

“I’ve long said that building the most robust early childhood system in the nation is foundational to making Kansas the best place to live, work, and raise a family,” *Governor Laura Kelly said.* “We are seeking a qualified, dedicated individual who will play a key role in turning this vision into a reality. I encourage those who are passionate about improving the lives of Kansas children and families to apply for this position.”

Passed by the Kansas Legislature and signed by Governor Kelly [ [link removed] ] in April of this year, House Bill 2045 is the most consequential early childhood education and care legislation enacted in Kansas in the last 15 years. It consolidates nearly 20 existing state programs serving young children and families into the Kansas Office of Early Childhood.

The Director of Early Childhood will serve as the executive administrator of the Kansas Office of Early Childhood, which will oversee the state’s early childhood education and care system. This includes the child care subsidy, child care licensing, the Kansas Children’s Cabinet and Trust Fund, and home visitation programs.

The director will work to provide strategic policy oversight of programs under the Office’s jurisdiction, manage the operations and staff of the agency, and ensure efficient use of funds for the provision of early childhood services. The director will also play a lead role in developing the culture, strategic vision, and performance metrics and accountability measures for the new agency.
