Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz plans to call a special legislative session to consider tougher gun laws following the horrific school shooting at the Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis.
John, more of this.
We don’t need thoughts, prayers, or broken promises after mass shootings. We need leaders who will step up and act.
This is a first step, and we’re proud of Gov. Walz for advocating for gun safety policies that are proven to work. But here’s the thing, the Minnesota legislature is evenly divided 67-67 in the House.
That means we will need leaders from both sides of the aisle to step up and act.
To leaders in Minnesota: We implore you to see this beyond a political issue. Kids’ lives are on the line. The school year has JUST begun. Don’t let any more of us die waiting for action.
GOP Speaker Lisa Demuth of Cold Spring said, “House Republicans stand ready to protect students and schools,” in a statement.
Remember that promise. Protect students and schools. Do what’s right.
At March For Our Lives, we will never forget the lives lost at the Annunciation Catholic School. We will continue to put the pressure on our leaders to act, and hold them accountable. Today, tomorrow, and the next day until we achieve a gun violence free world.
