That’s Barack Obama and me back in the day, and it’s safe to say a lot’s happened since then. My name is Raja Krishnamoorthi. I’m a brown guy with a funny name from Peoria, Illinois running for US Senate to fight for a better future for hardworking Americans. When I first started working for President Obama, it was a far cry from where he’d eventually end up. Back then almost everyone thought he had no chance of winning. He was about as different from the mainstream politicians as they come — he came from an immigrant background and had a “funny name.” We had a lot in common. But I’d never thought that someone like me could run for office. So when he asked me to help out on his long-shot Senate campaign, I had to say yes. I didn’t get paid anything, but I got to help shape the issues he ran on that we all know today. The rest, as all of you know, is history. ![]() Today, I know it can seem like we’re a long way away from the era of “hope and change.” I certainly miss having a President who believes in democracy and progress – not chaos and cruelty. Right now, it’s clear that we need real leaders with a backbone to stand up to Donald Trump’s insanity and fight for the same issues that President Obama championed. Because every family – regardless of who they are, where they live, or how funny their name might sound – deserves the chance to work hard and succeed.
Thank you for standing with me, Raja Krishnamoorthi
