The Memphis-Midsouth Democratic Socialists of America is mobilizing canvassing in support of the Memphis Public Library Workers, asking the crowd at Cooper Young Fest to sign this petition calling for the City Council to put a measure on the ballot to change library workers' status, and for the mayor to issue an executive order granting these workers the right to collectively bargain.

No experience in canvassing is needed to participate - a brief training will be provided before each shift begins.

Canvassing for Memphis Public Library Workers means...

Stronger Libraries for Memphis

When library workers have job protections, they can build stable careers and provide the consistent, high-quality services our city needs

Respect, Dignity, and Fair Treatment for Library workers

Library workers are among the lowest-paid city employees despite being

the most educated division! Library workers go through the same hiring process as other city employees, but are unfairly denied the same protections once hired. They deserve the right to organize for the fair pay that matches their vital work.

Keeping corruption out of our libraries

Classifying library workers as appointees allows mayors to use these jobs as political favors or fire them without cause. Our library workers should not be political pawns!
