I will be the first to admit it: I’m no Mark Kelly. The closest I’ve been to the Space Station is the cheap seats at a Carolina Hurricanes game.

But Mark asked me to reach out today to tell you about my race for the U.S. Senate because there’s a lot we have in common, too — and he tells me that you share the priorities we’re both fighting for.

Before I introduce myself further, I have to let you know that our race here in North Carolina is expected to be the most competitive Senate election of 2026, and it may become the most expensive U.S. Senate election ever. I’m reaching out because I’ll need as many supporters as possible to help take on the national GOP groups that are already trying to defeat me. Can you split a donation of any amount that fits in your budget between my campaign and Mark Kelly’s to help flip this seat from red to blue?

I’m Roy Cooper. I was proud to serve for eight years as the Governor of North Carolina, where I took on extreme right-wing attacks on the rights of North Carolinians and stood up for our democratic values. Now, I’m running for the U.S. Senate because so much of what’s happening in Washington is wrong, and when we take back the Senate, we can fight to stop it.

I won’t sit by while extreme Republicans slash SNAP and Medicaid to give tax breaks to the rich — or while they attack anyone who doesn’t share their beliefs. As the next Democratic Senator from North Carolina, I’m committed to joining Mark and Senate Democrats in standing up for the rights of all Americans. I’m going to speak out against the Trump Administration and extreme Republicans when they threaten the most fundamental values of our democracy. I’m ready to fight for a better nation for all of us.

Like Mark, I have experience winning some of the most competitive races. I won my races for Governor in NC in 2016 and 2020 — both years Republicans carried the state in the presidential election. I’m humbled to have the support and trust of folks from every corner of North Carolina in our work to make our state better.

But this Senate election is unlike anything we’ve faced before.

The path to the Senate majority runs through North Carolina. It’s our best opportunity to flip a seat from red to blue. Republicans know that too, so all their attention is on us. National GOP groups have committed to spending hundreds of millions of dollars to defeat me. I’m grateful for Mark’s strong support, and I need yours, too. Anything you can split between Mark’s campaign and mine today will go a long way to help win this race and take back the Senate for Democrats.
