Mississippi’s health department has declared a public health emergency due to the state’s mortality rate hitting its highest level in a decade.

You read that right. According to CNN, nearly half of all counties in Mississippi are considered maternity care deserts, and as a result, MS has the highest infant mortality rate in the nation.

Research has found a clear link between infant mortality and abortion restrictions. And Mississippi has a near-total abortion ban on the books. This is grave.

When anti-choice candidates and advocates push their backwards agendas on the people, it leads to more deaths. And anti-abortion groups want to bring those draconian laws to Virginia. We must fight back.

It has been reported that Mississippi’s health department has declared a public health emergency due to the state’s mortality rate hitting its highest level in a decade.

The data shows that since 2014, 3,527 babies in the state have died before the age of 1, increasing the overall infant mortality rate to 9.7 deaths per 1,000 live births, and that statistic is even higher for Black babies.
