Civil War on the Right—Newsmax Accuses Fox of Crushing Competition
The battle for conservative media just went nuclear.
Newsmax has filed a federal antitrust lawsuit against Fox Corporation, accusing Rupert Murdoch’s empire of abusing its dominance to squeeze out competition and block other right-leaning networks from reaching viewers.
The complaint, filed in Florida, alleges Fox strong-arms cable distributors with “no-carry” clauses, financial penalties, and sky-high fees—forcing them to take Fox’s less popular channels while freezing out competitors like Newsmax. In short, Fox is accused of running a monopoly on conservative television.
“Distributors can’t say no to Fox because Fox News is considered must-have content,” the lawsuit explains. That leverage, Newsmax argues, allows Fox to strangle challengers, raise prices, and limit viewer choice—all while claiming to speak for the right.
The lawsuit marks the most dramatic escalation yet in the long-simmering feud between the two networks. With Newsmax suing for survival and Fox fighting to protect its dominance, conservatives could be looking at an all-out media civil war.
