Wait, That’s a Problem?

What to Know: Environmentalists are lamenting a new study that shows people worldwide are becoming healthier and living longer—because they’re eating more meat.

The TPPF Take: This is further proof that the left’s version of environmentalism is anti-human.

“The draconian climate policies being advocated today will disproportionately hurt the poor and the developing world,” says TPPF’s Katie Tahuahua. “It’s wrong to deny people the longer lifespans and the opportunities we enjoy, in the name of unclear—and often incoherent—environmental policies.”

Loophole

What to Know: The Trump administration has moved to close a loophole (called the Flores Settlement Agreement) that has exacerbated the border crisis.

The TPPF Take: Closing the Flores loophole makes sense.

“More than any other policy, the Flores Settlement Agreement is responsible for the practice of ‘catch and release’ at the border, which has become a magnet for illegal immigration and a major driver of the current border crisis,” says TPPF’s John Daniel Davidson. “It is long past time to do away with Flores and enact a sensible policy that protects families while respecting the rule of law.”

It’s Still Terminal

What to Know: San Antonio has a new draft of its mandatory paid sick leave ordinance, slightly narrowing its scope.

The TPPF Take: This doesn’t fix anything.

“Even with its new limits, the ordinance is still unconstitutional,” says TPPF’s Rob Henneke. “Forcing any employer to pay employees for time not worked pushes the hourly wage above the limit set by state law. That’s why we’ll continue to fight these ordinances in court.”
