John,
Exciting news: Congressional stock trading could soon be banned!
This week, a bipartisan group of representatives in the House introduced the Restore Trust in Congress Act, a bill that would ban members of Congress and their families from trading stocks while in office. [1] This bill comes on the heels of the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs advancing a similar bipartisan bill. [2]
These two bills show that there’s serious momentum on this issue in both chambers — and we need to capitalize on it.
The members who introduced this bill know that this is an issue that Americans across the political spectrum care about. It’s time the rest of Congress got on board — tell your representative to support this bill and ban congressional stock trading.
Members of Congress shouldn’t be able to leverage their insider knowledge to make a profit by buying and selling stocks while in office.
Instead, Congress should be working day in and day out to act in the best interest of Americans and ensure their constituents have faith in government — not making us question where our elected leaders’ allegiance lies.
It’s time to put an end to these conflicts of interest — Congress must pass a ban on congressional stock trading.
Write to your representative now and tell them to support the Restore Trust in Congress Act!
Thanks for all you do, The Issue One Action Team
