Los Angeles Police Department officers are searching for a suspect or suspects following the 2:40 a.m. incident at 74th and Main streets. Shell casings litter the street as investigators canvass the neighborhood looking for evidence. Police say about 30 people were on the street, believed to possibly be gathered for a memorial, when an argument broke out and shots were fired. Two men were transported to the hospital with gunshot wounds, and one died, while the other is in stable condition. Police believe the incident may be gang-related. CBS 2 $50K reward offered for information leading to arrest of driver in South LA hit-and-run LAPD South Traffic Division detectives are looking for 24-year-old Sierra Whittaker. Police say she's the driver behind the fatal hit-and-run crash that killed 25-year-old Emerson Gonzalez-Escobar on July 5. The violent crash happened just after 9 p.m. the day after Independence Day at the intersection of 91st Street and South Figueroa. Detectives say Whittaker was driving the white Porsche Panamera and was traveling almost 100 miles per hour when she crashed into Gonzalez-Escobar, killing him. He was waiting for an ambulance to pass him while he was waiting to make a left turn from East 91st Street to South Figueroa. Whittaker and her two passengers were caught on cellphone video getting their belongings out of the car. A bystander took cellphone video asking the women why they didn't go help the victim. That's when Whittaker confronted the person recording the trio trying to get away with their belongings. Two months after the fatal crash, detectives are hoping a $50,000 reward will lead to Whittaker's whereabouts. MyNewsLA Alleged crime ring uses secret LA County tunnels to hide stolen cars, whistleblower says A whistleblower who works within the Whittier Narrows Recreation Area came forward exclusively to FOX 11 with claims of a crime ring using a system of tunnels to make stolen cars disappear. "I would say on average, it happens at least once a week," the whistleblower said. The worker wants to remain anonymous out of fear of retaliation. However, he claims a tunnel along the Rio Hondo is used like a garage by thieves trying to hide stolen vehicles and other expensive items. "They come into the channel," the whistleblower said. "They hide the vehicles, because they know whether the car has LoJack or not, or some sort of GPS tracker on it, once it’s under 3 feet of soil the signal is lost." He estimates the one specific tunnel goes about nine or 10 miles. "Once you go inside there, there are other small tunnels that branch off," the whistleblower said. "Law enforcement is not going to risk their lives in there." FOX 11 BWC: Florida officer, K-9 dragged by fleeing suspect A Lake Wales police officer and his K-9 partner, Bolo, are recovering at home after being dragged and struck by a vehicle during a traffic stop, FOX13 reported. Authorities say the suspect was pulled over after allegedly driving 30 miles per hour over the speed limit. Officers determined he was also driving without a license. When an officer attempted to place him under arrest, the suspect resisted, leading to a violent struggle. Body camera and gas station surveillance video released by the Lake Wales Police Department shows the moment the officer and K-9 Bolo became entangled with the car. As the suspect tried to flee, the vehicle dragged both the officer and the K-9, pulling them to the ground before striking them. During the chaos, the officer could be heard alerting fellow officers over the radio. “He’s going to run,” the officer said. After the incident, another officer arrived and asked, “You alright? Where do you hurt?” The injured officer responded, “Yeah, everywhere.” PoliceOne Public Safety News Apartment Fire Breaks Out in Northridge Fire broke out Friday in a second-story unit of a Northridge apartment building and firefighters had it out before it could spread.
