Announcing the National Day of the Bible Resolution
We at WallBuilders are thrilled to share news of a significant resolution in Congress! Representatives Michael Cloud (R-TX) and Glenn “GT” Thompson (R-PA) have introduced a joint resolution designating September 12th as "The Day of the Bible." This would commemorate the anniversary of the first English-language Bible printed in America—the Aitken Bible<[link removed]>—approved by the Continental Congress<[link removed]> on September 12, 1782. (Shown here is the Congressional Resolution printed in the front of Robert Aitken's 1782 Bible, from WallBuilders' Collection.)
This resolution honors the Bible's profound influence on America's founding principles. As it states: "Whereas the Bible has long been a foundational text in shaping the moral, cultural, and spiritual heritage of the United States;" and "Whereas for centuries, the Bible has offered inspiration, comfort, and moral guidance to countless Americans, influencing individual lives and informing the values of justice, compassion, redemption, and personal responsibility."
It calls for the President to issue an annual proclamation and encourages schools, civic institutions, and communities to observe the day with programs highlighting the Bible’s historical and cultural significance.
Why This Matters:
Rep. Cloud notes<[link removed]>, “More than any other source, our Founders cited Scripture as the foundation for the principles upon which our nation is established.” At WallBuilders, we celebrate this effort which aligns with our mission to highlight the Bible's role in our nation's history and the Founding Fathers' vision.
