Ottawa’s blocking accountability for grassroots First Nations band members and this is your chance to stand with a courageous activist who’s pushing back.
Hans McCarthy is fighting for accountability on Frog Lake First Nation.
Frog Lake’s trust fund, funded by oil revenues, totaled about $102 million in 2013. Only $8.7 million was left in 2024.
Hans asked his Chief and Council for documents showing what happened to the money in the trust fund. Then Hans and the CTF filed access-to-information requests to get a hold of the documents from Ottawa. Hans got nothing both times.
Because of support from taxfighters like you, Hans and the CTF launched a lawsuit against the federal government to get the documents.
That was more than two years ago. Han’s case will be in court soon. Your CTF legal team is arguing that Ottawa has a duty to provide these documents to band members who request them.
This court fight is important because it will help Hans get the documents he needs.
More importantly, winning this fight would set a precedent that all grassroots band members have a right to transparency in First Nations communities.
But the feds are using taxpayers’ money to pay lawyers to fight against accountability.
Hans has stepped up to fight for what’s right. This is your chance to join him in this fight for transparency.
