How do you explain a school shooting to a three-year-old? How do you keep a preschool class quiet when their very lives are at stake? How do you send them back to school afterwards?
These are some of the questions that parents have been forced to ask themselves in the days since the horrific shooting at a school in Minneapolis. The parents of students who were at Annunciation Catholic School, and parents across the country who both can’t imagine – and also can imagine all too easily – being in their shoes.
That’s why we are gathering on September 18. We’ll discuss the devastating toll gun violence is taking on our children, and we’ll take action . [[link removed]] We know this is a moment where you and others are searching for connection, answers, and for what you can do to help. We can do this together.

Inspired by the photo above, Minnesotan Jane White Schneeweis put to words what so many of us are feeling right now:
“To the mom in Minneapolis today who ran barefoot toward the school — shoes in hand, fear in her heart — millions of moms around the world were running with you…while you carried your shoes, you carried the weight of every parent who has ever whispered, ‘Please, not my baby.’ … Every mom, every dad, every human who still believes children deserve safety and innocence — we were running with you.”
We cannot take away the pain of this shooting, and we cannot take away the agony of so many others whose loved ones have been taken too soon. But we can come together to turn grief and fear into purpose and action. Join us September 18th to take meaningful steps toward a future where every child can learn, grow and thrive in safety.
