Legislative Update
Greetings,
School is officially back in session. Please remember to be extra vigilant and watch out for our school buses, children and adults crossing the street, and increased early morning and mid-afternoon traffic. Let’s make sure everyone returns home safely [ [link removed] ]!
In addition to the start of the new school year, it seems that everyone found time to email me with their very important question or concern that has been on their “to do” list all summer long.
Thank YOU!
Although I want to provide immediate responses, I know it is better to provide coordinated responses to your emails and letters. Thus, if you haven’t heard back from me, I am probably waiting for some research to come back, but feel free to reach out again and double check. Furthermore, we found a couple of small email glitches where some emails did not quite make it to my inbox. We believe the glitch has been addressed, so please email me again if you have not received a response.

Waseca County Farm Bureau
Next, I would like to thank the Waseca County Farm Bureau team for hosting Senator Dornink and me at their annual meeting. We each enjoyed the opportunity to share a legislative update from our separate perspectives, listen to various committee updates, and hear a preview of some of the proposed legislative changes our community agricultural leaders would like to see.

Remembering Blair Nelson
On Wednesday, I had the privilege of attending a formal dedication of a lakeside bench and the naming of the Waseca County weed harvester. As you can see in the photo, it is now the Blair Nelson Paddle Ship! On May 30th, 2023, our beloved Waseca County Commissioner Blair Nelson passed away very unexpectedly. Blair left behind a fantastic legacy of public and community service to include bringing people together to solve problems as well as addressing very challenging problems like the Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) issues in our local lakes. Blair’s determination enabled the purchase of the weed harvester pictured here with his family in the foreground. This was a superb investment that continues to effectively address the AIS problem in our county lakes. Furthermore, you can see a small sampling of all his supporters, County Commissioners, and Lakes Association members present for the dedication lining the shore from the perspective of the harvester.

Steele Co. Office of Workforce Development
On Thursday, it was my privilege to visit the Steele County Office of Workforce Development Inc. Through the passing of HF 2390 [ [link removed] ] as part of the Workforce and Labor Omnibus bill, we were able to help fund this office and enable the great work they do for our entire community. It was my honor to author this legislation, and I always enjoy hearing their updates. The team does a fantastic job of linking employees to our local employers to enable economic growth in our community.

Owatonna Downtown
Later, on Thursday evening, Jeanne and I enjoyed the last Owatonna Downtown Thursday for the season. I missed July and August due to travel and hip replacement surgery, respectively, so it was great to get back downtown Owatonna and enjoy date night. Unfortunately, the cool, windy, and wet weather scared off the band. However, we enjoyed seeing everyone and partaking in the food truck delights! Now, we can’t wait until next year to participate again!
Date Night!
