Hi John,

Fair representation is at stake right now.

We have a president who is pressuring Republicans across the country to pass extreme gerrymanders to rig the 2026 midterm elections.

But California is fighting back. Unlike Texas’s extreme, racial gerrymander, California’s proposed map protects the voting power of communities of color and leaves it up to the voters to decide. A.G. Holder breaks down how California is leading the fight against the threat to democracy posed by Donald Trump’s gerrymandering scheme:

“California’s ballot measure stands in stark contrast to Texas’s egregious power grab by doing what Donald Trump and the Republican Party refuse to do: let the damn voters decide. Our democracy is under threat because Republicans fear the judgment of the voters. Trump and his enablers want to insulate themselves from accountability by drawing lines that aim to ignore the will of the people and predetermine their illegitimate victory.”
—Eric H. Holder, Jr.
82nd Attorney General of the United States

“We cannot allow the American people to be cheated out of their rightful voice in our government. That’s why I support responsive, responsible, and temporary measures to ensure the foundations of our democracy are not permanently eroded. What California is doing to meet and balance Texas’s outrageous power grab achieves that purpose, and it has my absolute and total support.”

The NDRC is fighting right now to stop Republican power grabs and to ensure the will of the people prevails — in Texas, California, and across the country. Will you make a donation to fund this critical fight? [[link removed]]
