Hi John,
In Texas and other states, Republican lawmakers are rushing to redraw congressional maps at Donald Trump’s urging. It’s a blatant power grab: they want to lock in more safe Republican districts so they can hold onto control of the House next year, all while avoiding accountability from voters.
With Republicans working to gain an unfair advantage in House races across the country, the work we’re doing now to shore up Democratic campaigns in next year’s midterm elections is more important than ever. That includes volunteering to knock doors and talk to voters early in swing districts, as well as pooling our grassroots donations for the eventual Democratic nominees.
We know early organizing like this works: In 2024, the swing districts where the Swing Left community organized early and often performed significantly better overall, even in the face of national headwinds.
Redistricting is still unfolding in states across the country, and the exact path to a Democratic House majority is shifting. But we’re tracking every change and updating our list of targets in real time, so we’re always investing in the most impactful work that we know is needed now.
To make it simple, we’ve created a fund to support all of the eventual Democratic nominees in 22 targeted swing districts and Swing Left’s organizing efforts. Here’s how it works:
- We’ve already done the work to identify competitive House races—a mix of Democratic-held seats we need to defend and Republican-held seats we need to flip. Based on everything we know now, these are the races that are critical to deciding control of the House in 2026—and where our time and dollars will have the biggest impact.
- By donating to these target races, you’re supporting Swing Left’s national organizing work and the eventual Democratic nominees in 22 swing districts where we believe we can make the largest impact in our fight to flip the House.
- We’re ensuring campaigns have critically important funds as early as possible. A large pool of waiting funds helps Democratic campaigns build strong operations from the start by immediately hiring staff and communicating with voters. For blue districts we need to hold, your donations go immediately to the Democratic incumbent, giving them a head start before Republicans even have a nominee. And for districts that are currently held by Republicans, donations are held securely until right after the primaries—providing a critical infusion of money into the Democratic campaign at a time when their bank account is often drained from the primary race and Republicans are already on the attack.
- This strategy has proven to be effective before. In 2018, Swing Left helped pioneer the strategy of pooling small-dollar, grassroots funds for swing districts before primaries, and it was highly effective. The cash was a game-changer for a number of congressional campaigns—in a year that Democrats won the House, gaining 40 seats when they only needed to flip 23. Every election cycle since, the Swing Left community has come together to raise early money that’s helped deliver victories in razor-thin races nationwide.
Trump and his allies believe gerrymandering unfair maps to carve out more red seats will guarantee them another House majority. But if we organize and invest now, we can prove them wrong.
[Every dollar makes a difference. If you’re interested in supporting this work, you can do so here. Your donation will be split between Swing Left and the Democratic nominees in all 22 of our target races.]([link removed])
