Why I’m Running

I grew up in a working-class family. My dad stocked produce at Safeway, and my mom worked odd jobs to keep us going. Sometimes, dinner was just a stale candy bar.

When I became a dad during college — and then a single dad — Medicaid helped my son and me see a doctor. Food stamps helped keep us fed. And education gave me hope.

Because I never gave up, I went on to earn five degrees, become a public school math teacher, serve as Majority Leader of the Nevada state Senate, and today, I’m honored to serve as Nevada’s Attorney General.

I’m running because I believe our government should work for all of us in the Nevada family, not just billionaires and big corporations. Its role is to make sure that people who are struggling but striving — like I once was — have the tools, the opportunity, and someone who believes in them.

I’m proof of what’s possible when government sees people not as numbers, but as neighbors. When a family gets a fair shot. When the leadership at the top says: You matter.

My Opponent

While I’ve fought to make life better and more affordable for every Nevadan, Republican Governor Joe Lombardo has done the opposite.

He has vetoed housing reform, a cap on prescription drug prices, and even free school meals for our kids. Now, he says we should be “excited” about Trump’s tax bill — a bill that rips away health care from millions of Americans, including 100,000 Nevadans, all to give billionaires one of the largest permanent tax cuts in history.

That’s not leadership. That’s letting us down.

It’s Time to Move Forward

I believe every child — no matter their ZIP code or background — deserves the chance to grow up safe, healthy, and hopeful about their future.

I believe parents shouldn’t have to choose between keeping the lights on and putting food on the table.

I believe no Nevadan should be priced out of a home, denied health care, or stuck in a job that doesn’t pay enough to live on.

I believe in moving Nevada forward.

As Attorney General, I’ve taken on Big Pharma, corporate landlords, price-fixers, Donald Trump — and I’ve won. But to truly make Nevada a place where every hardworking person who dares to dream big can go out and make it real, we have more work to do.

Experts at The Cook Political Report say this race is a Toss Up — and that Lombardo is the most vulnerable Republican Governor in the country. I can defeat him, but only with your critical grassroots support.
