Aloha,
This week Governor Josh Green met with Pope Leo XIV, the first Pope from the United States, during his visit to the Vatican.
During the meeting, Governor Green extended an invitation to the pontiff to visit Kalaupapa, the site of the Hansen’s Disease colony where Hawaii’s two Catholic saints, Father Damien and Mother Marianne Cope, worked with those suffering from leprosy.
“The Pope has been committed to supporting human rights and humanitarian efforts around the world for decades,” Governor Green said, “and I am hopeful there are ways we can work together to promote peace and justice.”
Governor Green is scheduled to return to Hawaii on Sunday.
