This issue is deeply personal to me. My first issue I focused on while legislative canvassing was with Northside Power back in 2016, where we knocked doors to educate voters about a referendum on the bottom of the ballot that would expand access to food assistance. Seeing these new SNAP cuts break my heart because I know what’s at stake — families who won’t know where their next meal is coming from.
This is cruelty. These cuts won’t balance the budget. They’ll save only pennies compared to the trillions Trump handed out in tax breaks for billionaires. But they will cause real suffering — especially for the 14 million children in this country who already go hungry.
When I get to Congress, I’ll fight to restore and expand SNAP benefits so no family has to make the impossible choice between rent and groceries. Because in the wealthiest country on earth, no one should go hungry.
But I can’t do this alone. This campaign is people-powered — fueled by grassroots donors like you, not billionaires and lobbyists. If you agree that we must put families before corporations and kids before tax breaks, will you chip in $25, $50, or whatever you can spare?
