Friend — Randy Fine, Congress’s chief Islamophobe, is at it again.
This time, he’s calling my colleague and sister in struggle Rashida Tlaib the “ugly face of Islam in America”, adding: “It’s up to us to stop them.”
Friend, Randy Fine didn’t say “radical Islam” or “Islamic extremism”, the usual right-wing dogwhistles. No, in his tweet, Randy Fine is simply attacking all Muslim people in America. Saying that they must be “stopped.”
Just imagine if he was talking about any other religion. Imagine if a member of Congress called one of their colleagues “the ugly face of Christianity” or “the ugly face of Judaism.” They would rightfully be met with immediate, sweeping condemnation. But for Republicans, Muslim people are fair game for hateful attacks.
Randy Fine is a racist bigot who has made it clear that he wants Muslim people to be forced out of American society.
Well, both Rashida and I have a message for Randy: We’re not going anywhere.
In the video clip that Randy is reacting to, Rashida Tlaib is showing more moral courage and compassionate leadership than he ever could.
Rashida has watched from afar for two long years as her Palestinian brothers and sisters are bombed, shot, and starved to death. She has led the growing movement to secure a ceasefire, end military aid to Israel, and end the occupation of Palestine.
That’s the real reason that Randy Fine is afraid of Rashida — day in and day out she exposes the lies of the pro-genocide, pro-Israel far-right that Randy represents.
As the only two Muslim women in Congress, this kind of stuff isn’t new for Rashida and I. That’s why we stick together, and why we stick with this beautiful progressive movement. Because we are stronger when we are together in solidarity, standing up to racist attacks and staying focused on the fight for justice for all.
