Kate here---I can't believe it's already September! The summer has flown by, and now Philadelphia kids are heading back to school. That means it's time to double down on making sure our schools and communities stay safe from gun violence.
I've lived through the fear of gun violence in schools. Now I worry about my 10-year-old sister having to deal with the same things I did when I was her age. I'm working every day to keep my sister and Pennsylvania's kids safe from gun violence. Chances are, you've also got kids or teachers in your life that you care about, so I wanted to make sure you saw this email about CeaseFirePA's first NE Philadelphia event AND let you know that we've got a new Southeast PA regional event coming up at the end of the month! Join us for these exciting events where we'll be taking direct action to keep our kids and teachers safe in schools.
Keeping Kids Safe: A Philadelphia Community Meeting - RSVP HERE [[link removed]]
Date: Tuesday, September 9th
Time: 5:30 - 6:30 pm
Location: Northeast Regional Library (2228 Cottman Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19149)
Description: This is an event for unity. Whether you're a parent, grandparent, teacher, or just a concerned community member, each of us has a stake in this fight. At this event, we'll have a short training about how gun violence affects kids, we'll be sharing stories, and there will be opportunities to take easy, direct actions to prevent gun violence.
Beyond the Lockdown Drills: Real Solutions for Safer Schools and Communities in Southeast PA - RSVP HERE [[link removed]]
Date: Thursday, September 25th
Time: 6 - 7:30 pm
Location: Northampton Township Library (25 Upper Holland Rd, Richboro, PA 18954)
Description: This is a larger regional event for all of Southeast PA, featuring a panel of parents, grandparents, teachers, and community members who are going to share their experience regarding concerns for gun violence in schools. Attendees will have a chance to learn more about data-driven policy solutions, share their own stories about school safety, and take direct action to help keep our community safe.
