John,
In case you missed it, Donald Trump declared a "crime emergency" in Washington, D.C. and sent federal agents and National Guard troops into the city. Now, he’s pushing Congress to let him extend the D.C. takeover beyond the 30-day legal limit and even open the door to military occupations in cities across the country. Chicago may be next. I’ll be there myself next month, standing with community leaders and making sure our voices are heard.
Let’s call this what it is: Trump’s takeover of D.C. is the first step in an authoritarian power grab. He's weaponizing the federal government and law enforcement to occupy Democrat-led cities and undermine local control.

Judge rules Trump can't act as national police chief The president broke the law when he deployed troops to Los Angeles, Judge Charles Breyer ruled
This week, a federal judge ruled that Trump’s use of troops in Los Angeles violated federal law. But instead of backing down, he’s trying to expand these illegal power grabs.
We cannot allow that.
I’m asking you to join me in demanding that Congress shut this down: No extension past 30 days in D.C. and no new authority for Trump to send troops into our communities. Not now, not ever. Sign on today. [[link removed]]

Trump’s authoritarian D.C. takeover ends in just a few days unless Congress extends it. Don’t delay and send your message to Congress now, before they vote on this dangerous “crime bill.” Let’s ensure this power grab is stopped in its tracks.
Thank you for standing up with me. Together, we’ll protect local rule and defend our democracy.
-Derek
