For decades, Virginia’s Right-to-Work law has safeguarded a fundamental freedom: the right of workers to decide for themselves whether or not to join a union. This principle is not anti-worker—it is pro-choice. It ensures that no Virginian is forced to hand over part of their paycheck to a union that may be bloated with bureaucracy and weighed down by rules that restrict flexibility and innovation.
The results speak for themselves. Right to Work has allowed Virginia’s economy to thrive. Businesses are freer to grow, wages are competitive, and families enjoy more opportunities. Virginia consistently ranks among the very best states in America to do business. That is no coincidence—it is the direct outcome of preserving freedom in our workforce.
Our Commonwealth also has a proud history of leadership on this issue. Shortly after Congress passed the Taft-Hartley Act, Virginia became one of the very first states to enact a Right-to- Work law. For generations, this law has been a pillar of economic strength, helping Virginia stand apart as a place where businesses want to invest and workers want to build their future.
Just look at the past four years. Under the Youngkin–Sears administration, Virginia has seen a surge of new manufacturing and investment. LEGO, Microporous, AstraZeneca—the list goes on. These companies chose Virginia because we foster a pro-business, pro–Right to Work climate. Communities that once struggled are now experiencing revitalization, and families are reaping the rewards of new opportunities.
Contrast this with what Democrats are offering. Their agenda calls for sweeping expansions of collective bargaining and, ultimately, the outright repeal of Right to Work. Last session, they introduced legislation to force collective bargaining on every state employee—legislation that would drag our government further into inefficiency. Their nominee for Lieutenant Governor has gone even further, openly promising to end Right to Work altogether. That would be nothing short of devastating. Businesses would leave. Jobs would dry up. Virginia’s hard-earned reputation as a top state for business would crumble.
We cannot afford to take that risk. It was conservative leadership that helped carry Virginia out of the COVID lockdowns and positioned our economy to rebound stronger than almost anywhere else in the nation. While Maryland ranked dead last in labor force participation after the pandemic, Virginia ranked #2. That strength came from policies that respect freedom, empower workers, and give businesses room to succeed.
This November, Virginians face a clear choice. Do we protect the freedoms and policies that have made our Commonwealth an economic leader? Or do we gamble it all on union mandates and government overreach? Only one ticket has proven it will defend Right to Work, grow our economy, and keep Virginia moving forward: Winsome Earle-Sears, John Reid, and Jason Miyares.
The stakes could not be higher. Let’s keep Virginia free, competitive, and prosperous. Let’s keep Virginia Right to Work.
