John, so often in conversations about gun violence, I hear people say, “I never thought it could happen to me.” But I’ve never had that privilege.

My own mother was shot in front of me when I was a toddler. Trust me when I tell you, the impact of gun violence never goes away. I’ve been a teacher for over 20 years – through Sandy Hook, Parkland, Uvalde, and many more tragedies we don’t name. And I’m a mother who worries about her three sons and grandson every day.

The thing is, John – I’m not an anomaly. As the gun violence epidemic continues, more people share my story than ever before. That’s why I’ve joined Teachers Unify as an Ambassador, to be part of the change we so desperately need.
