<<<TAKE OUR SURVEY: IS THERE EVER A GOOD REASON FOR THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT TO SHUT DOWN?>>>

John,

Congress is back in Washington with just a few weeks to pass a spending bill before the government shuts down at the end of September.

This is not a new problem. Over the past decade, we have seen repeated budget standoffs that have disrupted federal services, hurt the economy, and undermined public trust.

Some lawmakers defend shutdowns as a legitimate tool to force change. Others say they are reckless and harmful no matter the circumstances.

We want to know what you think.

Here is the question:
Is there ever a good reason for the federal government to shut down?
