Let’s not forget — during the January 6th insurrection, Trump claimed he didn’t have the authority to send the National Guard to defend our nation’s capital. This week, a federal judge ruled that his use of National Guard troops in LA this summer was illegal. Yet he is still overstepping his power in order to normalize using the US military to quell political dissent ahead of the 2026 and 2028 elections.
This is not public safety. This is about fear, control, and laying the groundwork for authoritarian rule.
Chicago is my home. We know what keeps us safe. And I will not stay silent while Trump endangers our communities and strips away the resources we actually need to survive.
