Intercity Transit launches new bus routes connecting Thurston and Pierce counties

*Olympia, Wash.* – Beginning Sunday, September 7, 2025, Intercity Transit will launch two new commuter bus routes to strengthen connections between Thurston and Pierce counties, replacing Route 620.

The new service is designed to improve travel options for commuters, military families, and leisure riders traveling between Olympia, Lacey, Lakewood, and beyond.

Route 600 – Lakewood Commuter

This new commuter-focused service will provide direct weekday connections between Olympia Transit Center and the SR 512 Park & Ride in Lakewood, with limited stops at key connection points including Martin Way Park & Ride and the Lakewood Sounder Station.

Route 610 – Lacey Connector

Running seven days a week, the Lacey Connector expands inter-county service and offers more flexibility for daily riders. This route will travel between Olympia Transit Center and the SR 512 Park & Ride, serving multiple stops including:

* Lacey Transit Center
* Hawks Prairie Park & Ride
* Lakewood Sounder Station
* Berkeley St. near Joint Base Lewis-McChord’s Madigan Gate
* Stops along Capitol Way in Olympia

The Berkeley St. stop, just across I-5 from JBLM’s Madigan Gate, is an important addition aimed at improving access for military personnel and families, contractors, and retirees.

These improvements are supported in part by a regional mobility grant from the Washington State Department of Transportation, which aims to reduce traffic congestion and improve commuter transportation options.

This launch marks a significant step in Intercity Transit’s ongoing, system-wide service redesign throughout Thurston County, which is focused on creating more efficient, connected, and rider-focused transit options.
