CLEAN ENERGY INSIDER
- RECESS RECAP -
September 3, 2025
REAMS REPORT

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

Welcome back from August recess! While Congress was out of session, CRES had a jam-packed agenda advocating for our priorities. Throughout August, members of our team traveled to Alaska, Michigan, Montana, Texas, Tennessee, New Mexico and Colorado to meet with legislators, staff and key industry stakeholders.

A large part of CRES’ work is educating policymakers and the public about the real-life impact of an all-of-the-above energy approach. Meeting lawmakers in their own backyards is key to communicating our message and showing policy impacts are real.

These trips are packed with site visits, educational panels and live, on-the-ground walkthroughs detailing the impact of energy policy and projects in local communities. Learning from those at home is critical, particularly as the energy world begins to think about “what’s next”? Our efforts will continue to ensure we are prepared for whatever comes down the pipeline.

One crucial component to CRES Forum’s education efforts—and now less than two weeks away—is National Clean Energy Week (NCEW)! With lawmakers and industry leaders confirmed to attend and participate, this NCEW will be the biggest one yet and we hope to see everyone there. If you’re interested in learning more about NCEW, please reach out to our new Vice President of External Relations, Angela Chiappetta, at [email protected].

As always, CRES understands political headwinds and is keeping a close eye on changes or movements from the Administration for anything that could impact our champions in Congress and partners in the business world. We remain in close contact with our friends and allies to ensure no one is caught off guard. Should you want to collaborate with the CRES team on clean energy initiatives or learn more about our work, please do not hesitate to get in touch!
Sincerely,
Heather Reams
CRES President and CEO

WHAT CRES IS HEARING
“To compete economically, we need affordable, abundant, reliable and secure energy. Agnostic of the source, we need all of them.” – Congresswoman Miller-Meeks in a statement ([link removed]) .
––
“This administration is committed to reinvigorating our nuclear industrial base, delivering low energy costs for millions of Americans, and strengthening our nation’s energy security. How are we doing that? Last week, the Department of Energy issued its fifth installment of a loan guarantee for a Michigan nuclear plant, the first reactor to restart here in the U.S.!” – Secretary of Energy Chris Wright in a statement ([link removed]) .
––

“It will become very clear very quickly that our energy needs will outstrip our ability to produce energy unless we also include wind energy in the mix.” – Senator Mike Rounds in a statement ([link removed]) .
––

"This decision comes as great news for Michiganders. The Palisades nuclear plant will help address Michigan’s critical need for baseload power and ensure that Michigan has access to affordable and reliable energy." – Chairman Tim Walberg in a statement ([link removed]) .

WHAT CRES IS DOING

CRES Forum participated in the fourth annual communicators retreat hosted by the Conservate Climate Foundation (CCF) in Grand Rapids, Michigan. CCF Board Chair Heather Reams gave opening remarks and talked about how important it is for conservative communicators to effectively convey their messages to lawmakers and staff. CRES Forum’s director of communications, Juan Ayala, participated in a panel discussion about working in nonprofits, on Capitol Hill and what day-to-day work entailed with peers from Duke Energy and the Solar Energy Industries Association.

Tommy Reynolds, director of government relations at CRES, spoke at the American Conservation Coalition's (ACC) 2025 Summit, leading a breakout session to discuss the conservative approach to federal energy policy and how to effectively promote clean energy. The Summit is the nation's largest gathering of young conservative conservationists and was an opportunity for CRES to share its work.
