Friend — Yesterday, Trump made it clear that we are days from federal troops and other federal law enforcement being sent into Chicago for an all-out takeover.
Illinois Governor JB Pritzker announced that federal agents as well as Texas National Guardsmen are being positioned near Chicago in anticipation of a probable military takeover.
Just like in DC, the Trump administration is planning to use local crime as an excuse to send ICE into Latino neighborhoods and carry out mass deportations. Just like in DC, we will see people’s civil rights violated, activists targeted, families separated, and entire communities intimidated into silence.

Crime has been falling in most major US cities, including Chicago. And Chicago’s local leadership has said for weeks that they don’t want or need a federal takeover. They need more investment in their communities to end the cycles that create crime. They need common sense gun laws nationwide to bring down gun violence.
But Trump needs an excuse to unleash an authoritarian military takeover, and crime is all too easy of an issue to use as a scare tactic on Fox News.
So let’s set the record straight. Trump does not have the constitutional authority to trample on state and local laws and take over America’s cities unless there is a real emergency.
He may think he has all of the power, but Congress has the ability and the responsibility to put a check on this out of control administration.
