![]() Team, Republican's Big Ugly Bill is nothing but trouble for American consumers. Their massive tax and spending bill slashes the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s funding by 50%, stripped away protections for victims of scams and fraud, and did away with safeguards against unfair, deceptive, and abusive practices by financial institutions. So Senate Democrats are fighting back. ModSquad members Senators John Hickenlooper and Catherine Cortez Masto, alongside 20 of their Senate colleagues, introduced the Stop the Scammers Act. This Act would restore funding to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and authorize the CFPB to reward whistleblowers who report wrongdoing.
The CFPB has long been a vital consumer watchdog, taking on abusive businesses and returning BILLIONS back to Americans. Slashing the CFPB’s funding is a short-sighted decision that will have long-lasting effects on working families and our financial markets. It will only lead to more scams, more fraud, and more pain for the victims of predatory business practices. Listen, Democrats refuse to stand by and watch while Trump and the Republicans let bad actors rip off the American people. That’s why ModSquad members are stepping up and introducing this bill. But if we’re going to advance meaningful legislation that supports hardworking American families, then our ModSquad members need your support.
