While progressive populist Zohran Mamdani may have won the primary for New York City’s mayor in decisive fashion, the battle isn’t over yet — and a dangerous coalition of the ultrawealthy, business interests, and Republicans is converging to try and stop Mamdani from implementing his people-first agenda.
To make matters worse, Mamdani’s opponent Andrew Cuomo is now openly courting Trump donors and even floating cooperation with Trump himself in a desperate attempt to raise a dark money war chest.
"Let’s put it this way: I knew the president very well…So I believe there will be opportunities to actually cooperate with him," said Cuomo at a closed-doors fundraiser. Zohran Mamdani already had to overcome $25+ million in outside spending during the primary, and he’s going to need every cent of support we can give him now if he’s going to win in November.
New York City is home to over 3 million immigrants. We cannot risk Andrew Cuomo riding a wave of dark money from Trump, Republican billionaires and CEOs to the mayor’s office and then giving full rein to Trump’s deportation goons in exchange.
Mamdani campaign spokesperson Dora Pekec summed it up perfectly: Cuomo is planning “to rig the election. Since he’s too afraid to say it to New Yorkers’ faces, we’ll make it clear: Andrew Cuomo IS Donald Trump’s choice for mayor.”
The stakes are far too high for one of the biggest cities in the country to have a leader beholden to an authoritarian would-be dictator like Donald Trump. It’s going to take all of us to fight back against the avalanche of smears, fear-mongering, and outright lies that millions of dollars in dark money will hurl at Zohran Mamdani.
