Donald Trump just armed the National Guard troops he’s deployed to
Washington, D.C.
History tells us where this leads. Just look at Kent State in 1970, when
the National Guard opened fire on unarmed students, killing four and
wounding nine. Now, despite crime being down, Trump is threatening to send
the Guard into other cities like Chicago.
There is no crisis here that justifies loaded weapons in our
neighborhoods. This isn’t about safety — what Trump wants is intimidation
and control.
