John, we promised to give you every update on how The Montana Plan is moving along.

In case you missed it, The Montana Plan is a brand-new legal approach built on top of 200 years of Supreme Court decisions that say states can stop giving their corporations any power at any time.

Upon passing this as a ballot initiative here in Montana, it would mean we stop granting corporations the power to spend in politics, specifically. This creates a blueprint to eliminate the shady and secret political spending that has driven up costs in elections — and damaged America’s faith that elections are about us, the people — in all 50 states.

So, what’s new?

1️⃣ First, we filed our constitutional initiative and ballot statement language with the Secretary of State’s office. We’re officially finished with this step!

2️⃣ Now, it’s moving to the Budget Director's office, who will determine if a fiscal note should be attached. After that, it will move on to the Attorney General’s office to make sure the amendment is written clearly enough for people to understand, and would not be in violation of any of the guidelines imposed on initiatives if it were to pass.

3️⃣ Once all review processes are completed, our initiative is certified ready for signature gathering! To qualify for the next statewide ballot, we would need to collect a number of signatures equal to 10% of the total votes cast in the last gubernatorial election, 10% of voters in each of 40 Legislative districts. Since 612,423 Montanans cast a vote in that election, we will need to get autographs from just over 60,000 of our neighbors. Our goal would be to collect 100K signatures.

4️⃣ Then, once the signatures are verified, we’ll officially be on the ballot! We will continue encouraging our fellow Montanans to support The Montana Plan through Election Day.

Since this process is already in motion, we need to be ready to launch our statewide grassroots signature collection campaign at any moment.

Every dollar will help us train canvassers to knock doors, talk to people at farmers' markets and community events, and make sure we are able to restore political voice to the people. This is our shot to make the Citizens United decision irrelevant. Please, chip in today:
