Hey! It’s Jon, Jon, and Tommy.
We launched Vote Save America in the run up to the 2018 midterm elections. We wanted to create a place for friends of the pod (and friends of friends of the pod) to donate, volunteer, and organize in their communities. A lot of people were paying attention to politics - many for the first time. This was a way to turn that energy into action and hopefully change. And you all stepped up big time.
In 2018, we took back the House. Remember that? Really great. In the years since, we’ve:
Raised over $70M for candidates and mobilized over 600,000 voters and volunteers.
Knocked over a quarter million doors and made 23M calls.
Helped take back the White House and the Senate in 2020.
Blocked the “red wave” in 2022.
And raised millions to protect abortion access, fight trans bans, register voters, and support grassroots organizing all across the country.
But as you’ve been building this community, rightwing media has continued to grow in influence, and Republican politics has only become more extreme and more beholden to Donald Trump. Plus you probably noticed we lost in 2024. We see the consequences of that playing out every day and those consequences are VERY BAD.
So where do we go from here? Hopefully up. And while there are a lot of questions we have to answer - about what messages work, about how to reach more people, about how to stop getting texts from Hakeem Jeffries - here’s what we do know:
The answer to a rising authoritarian movement on the right is a big diverse relentless democratic movement on the left. And that movement is going to take all of us.
