Florida could hand 3 more House seats to Republicans if Gov. DeSantis
follows the extreme, racist, partisan gerrymandering in Texas,^1 — giving
the GOP an even greater chance to control Congress for a decade or more.
Trump isn’t settling with unconstitutional gerrymandering on his quest to
destroy free and fair elections. He’s also trying to end mail voting,
continuing to peddle lies about voting machines, and calling for a
mid-decade census that would exclude non-citizens from the count.^2,3 This
is Trump’s all-out attack on the freedom to vote and the very survival of
democracy.

For more than a decade, Republicans have made voter suppression a main
part of their agenda at the state and federal level. They’ve pushed voter
ID laws, partisan gerrymandering, and now the SAVE Act, which would create
an extreme burden for millions to vote.^5 Trump is escalating these
undemocratic tactics to a whole new level.
“He can't just decree that we don't have mail-in balloting anymore. The
Constitution says that each state gets to set its own rules for running
elections,” said a UCLA law professor.^6 But Trump has shown that he will
break the law and demand that his MAGA loyalists in state governments do
his bidding no matter what the Constitution says.
The White House is trying to cause as much chaos as possible ahead of the
midterms. Trump is sowing distrust, targeting immigrants, and spreading
propaganda — all the hallmarks of a strongman’s attempt to destroy
democratic elections. Congress must stop Trump’s brazen moves to steal the
midterms.
