Dear Health Advocates,
Congress is back from its August recess and has until September 30 to pass a budget bill or else the government will shut down. This is also an opportunity to make our voices heard and lift up urgent actions around health care affordability and consumer protections.
As you know, the bill Republicans passed earlier this summer guts Medicaid, terminates health care coverage for millions, and increases costs for us all. Republicans also failed to extend the enhanced ACA premium tax credits, which will expire at the end of the year if Congress doesn't act. If these tax credits expire, millions of people will lose coverage, causing them to delay or skip needed health care and take on medical debt they cannot afford. It will result in health care premiums and costs spiking for everyone, whether you get your health care through Medicaid, your employer or on the private insurance market.
Families USA is updating our state and national fact sheets on the importance of the enhanced premium tax credits. As proposed premium rates increases are released — showing sharp spikes across the country — we must hold Congressional Republicans accountable and press them to extend the enhanced premium tax credits by the end of the year. Here is one concrete way you can take action and demand Congress stand up for working Americans: send an email to your members TODAY asking them to extend these enhanced credits.
